Introduction to the Ocean
Discover key Ocean ecosystems, why the Ocean is important to all life on Earth, Ocean threats (like climate change and pollution) and how we can all take action to protect our Ocean.
This Ocean Academy resource equips students to think critically about how marine science is communicated and how storytelling can shape public understanding of Ocean issues. Learners explore science communication formats from journalism and research papers to podcasts, poetry and social media, and examine how tone and framing influence meaning.Â
Activities challenge students to create their own Ocean stories, drawing on Ocean Generation’s values of positivity, inclusivity, and science-backed facts. They consider how misinformation spreads, why effective communication matters, and how storytelling can inspire action for a healthier planet.Â

All resources created by Ocean Generation are backed by Science.Â
We steer clear of fear-mongering and, instead, provide science-backed facts, spark curiosity and empower action. Our resources are designed to be seamlessly integrated across multiple subjects, improve Ocean literacy and connect classroom topics to real-world environmental issues.
The Ocean storyteller resource links Ocean science with English and Media, supporting skills in communication, critical thinking and creativity.Â
