Scottish Power moves to 100% wind generation
Scottish power, one of the UK’s big six energy providers, has sold off its last remaining power station and ditched fossil fuels as it shifts to 100% wind power. A monumental step in the right direction. More and more companies may follow suit, if consumers continue to show demand for a greener future.
Iberdrola, Scottish Power’s Spanish parent company, said the move was part of its strategy to tackle climate change and would free it up to invest in renewables and power grids in the UK.
They have sold their power plant for over £700M and plan to invest this money into greener projects. This means that in this transitional stage, Scottish power’s 5 million domestic customers will be supplied through green and brown energy sources for the moment.
Still, a huge jump in the right direction, we applaud Scottish Powers choice to build a greener future.
